I made this illustration for Colin O'Donnell's awesome TechCrunch article that appeared on May 12, 2016 titled In the singularity, we’ll still be using the same garbage trucks. Colin had this idea of how cities have layers that move at different speeds and wanted something akin to one of those oldschool textbook geology illustrations. I combined that with the idea that cities are living things and came up with this quick geo/bio-esque isometric doodle and overlayed Colin's text (in Helvetica Neue of course).
